GROWING YOUR OWN URBAN JUNGLE

Thank you for stopping by. In our previous blog we discussed all about where you can keep your plants and beautify your space by simply adding a touch of nature. Here we would like to share our detail knowledge about the urban jungle that one would like to create in there little paradise called “HOME”.


Before investing in any product or item we do our detail research about it, so why not know more about your plants before you give them a new life. So let’s begin!!



ARECA PALM


Areca palm also called as Golden cane palm or Butterfly palm. It is one of the most widely

used Palm Plant for bright interiors. They grow well if provided the right amount of light and does best in south or west facing window, too much of direct sunlight will make the leaves turn yellowish. Water them enough to keep the soil lightly moist in spring & summer and keep the soil little dry in fall and winter. They also need repotting in every 2-3 years.




RUBBER PLANT


Rubber plants are tree-like plants that are known for their great height (Grows 6 to 10 feet tall) and beautiful leaves. They prefer bright, indirect light that isn’t too hot, you can also keep it near your balcony window with a sheer curtain to give it just the right amount of sunlight. This plant requires more water during their growing season of summer. You should keep the soil moist, but not drowning. You need to re-pot them every year in order for them to grow more.




CACTUS


Cacti or cactuses are perfectly adapted to live in the intense heat or desert like environment, which means they can most definitely survive the warm and dry conditions of a centrally heated home. They tend to live for 10 years indoors. You can never go wrong with a cactus as they are the easiest to maintain. They also go perfect on your office table. You can go with any to name a few would be – Echinocactus, Mexican giant cactus, Bunny Ear cactus, Mammillaria.





ENGLISH IVY


English ivy also classified as woody vines. They act as climber which allows them to climb up to 50 feet or more. English ivy spreads quickly meaning that they could be useful as ground covers for filling in hard-to-plant spots in your landscaping. These vines grow best when they have plenty of moisture, try avoid direct sunlight in summers but they tolerate dry conditions once established.





CHINESE MONEY PLANT


Also known as Pilea or Pancake plant or UFO plant they are also widely used in Scandinavian interiors. It is a very low maintenance plant that doesn’t require much attention. The best place to grow them is a brightly lit spot near window but its best to keep the plant out of direct sunlight as too much sun cause the plant to burn the leaves. They prefer well drained pot soil with drainage holes in it along with that monthly fertilization is necessary in the month of summer and spring.




MONSTERA PLANT


Monstera is also commonly known as Swiss cheese plant. It needs a lot of space to grow so it’s best suggested to put the plant in a place where the leaves can be spread easily and can also showcase its beauty. Monstera grows well in a bright place meaning direct sunlight can make the leaves turn yellow and too much of darkness will kill the plant, and as they grow they will vine out so you can trim them as per there growth and your need.




FERN PLANT


Ferns are amongst the most beautiful houseplant which is relatively easy to grow. There are many species of ferns and most of them prefer a shady place because usually they can’t survive in direct sunlight, but if provided some decent amount of regular water then you can plan to keep it outside in daytime for few days. Meaning you need to regularly water the ferns and not let the soil go completely dry. Ferns are also known to survive well in moist environment which makes them perfect to fit in bathrooms and kitchen, these are also air purifying plants which is why we highly recommend you guys to place it near a north or south facing window. Also don’t forget to fertilize it once a month.




FIDDLE LEAF FIG


Fiddle leaf fig is the plant of ‘Today’ it’s a kind of plant that makes a statement in your room. This plant is known for its beautiful shape and height, it tends to grow every year and can reach up-to 40 feet, but no need to worry you can grow this plant in your home for several years and make your space look gorgeous as ever. Fiddle leaf needs lots of bright indirect light meaning you can place it near East facing window or your near balcony door. You can water them once you feel the soil has dried few inches, and you need to be very careful with the watering cycle as under-watering will cause the leave to turn yellow and over watering will make it turn brown on the edges and in spot form.

TIP: You need to clean its leaves by wiping it with a damp cloth occasionally since it attracts lots of dust.





POTHOS


Pothos is known by many names such as Money plant, devil’s ivy, golden pothos. These plants are nearly impossible to kill, they grow well in bright indirect light, although they can also survive in low light conditions. They also help in cleaning the air around us which makes them perfect for offices, living room, bedroom. You can water them once you see the soil has dried few inches, over watering will make the roots and soil soggy so you need to maintain the balance. You can also give them monthly snack in the form of fertilizer. Tip: The beauty of pothos is that you can decorate this in any way or form and it’ll end up looking stunning only.





PEACE LILY


Peace lily is an all-time favourite low maintenance houseplant. This plant can reach up-to 3 to 4 feet height with bold and wide leaves. It helps clean the air we breathe which makes this a highly recommendable plant. The white blossoms of the peace lily generally appears in spring, and if taken care well then it might blossom in fall again which lasts for two months. You need to keep them away from direct sunlight, shaded light is more than enough for them probably behind the curtains. You need to water them at least once a week to keep the soil moist, but water them less in winters and the best part about the peace lily is that even if you forget to water them and feel like it’s gonna die then don’t worry they can grow back to life again completely.

Tip: If you have a pet in house it’s recommended to keep it away from them since it can be toxic for them.
